Two dozen probes at problem areas had revealed improperly installed and spaced wall ties in the brick cavity walls of this public school constructed in 1970. The client asked SUPERSTRUCTURES to determine whether the poor workmanship was typical of the entire building. Using a covermeter, large wall areas were surveyed and quality ratings assigned to each detected wall tie. The non-destructive survey was also used to direct the location of twelve more probes, which confirmed the survey findings, justifying the need for extensive repairs.
