To prioritize roof repairs, the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey asked SUPERSTRUCTURES to use NDT&E to assess the extent of failure on 16 roofs at toll plazas, maintenance buildings, and administrative buildings at its Goethals, Bayonne and Outerbridge Crossing bridges. Electrical impedance testing was effectively used to survey over 50,000 square feet of roof surface, including a toll plaza roof where the moisture under the failed membrane had turned to ice. Complementary infrared thermography was hampered by the cold, by ballast, and by reflective membranes.
